I i understand right,

You should use software that can recognize physical objects (laser Lights 
are objects (they have a limit in reach, so your computer should be able to 
recognize it)...(Doug?)

Just point it to the object(in this case the laser with a colour we can't 
see but the computer certainly dous). Then you're computer should draw a 
visible colour to it.
