>From the frontlines, I happen to be working on a (non-portable) .NET
application right now, with ASP.NET front end and C# back end. The
company I work for has a .NET based intra/extranet. And I've been looking
for .NET contractors recently, judging from their resumes there appears to
be a lot of .NET happening in enterprises. I've heard a lot of ".NET is a
fast way to build systems." Moreover, ASP.NET is pretty cool, a friend of
mine learning Web development is using the free ASP.NET IDE, and in a few
mouse-clicks you can put together a database-driven Web site.

I'm still skeptical about .NET (as I write this from a Linux box), but I
suppose I'll be an expert on it in a few months.
