> >I've decide that I need PCMCIA support in my wearable for > >compatibility with the Compact FLASH format. > > CompactFlash has two modes, PCMCIA and IDE. So if your wearable already > has IDE support then there's no need to add PCMCIA support just for CF. I did look at this and decided that the additional overhead of full PCMCIA support was worth it for the ability to add in functions like GPS for positioning or a SCSI chain with tape drive for backup / archive. I'm looking at doing a wearable that is an assistant. It records my notes, Video, etc, then I can edit and archive them for future refference. While around home I can do archival by ethernet and a wireless network card or even a hard ethernet link, it gets a bit much to lug a second computer along to do archiving while on vacation. Plus PCMCIA allows for hot swaping components while running. Hooking a Compact FLASH card to the IDE interface dosen't allow for reliable hot swapping. Another reason is all the software is available under Linux now. If needed I'm just tuning or making bug fixes. -- | Bryan Andersen || http://softail.visi.com | | Buzzwords are like annoying little flies that deserve to be swatted. | | -Bryan Andersen | -- Subcription/unsubscription/info requests: send e-mail with subject of "subscribe", "unsubscribe", or "info" to
