Good article, but I disagree with a couple of your points. I think
windows CE is less popular then microsoft imagined it would be for a
couple of silly human reasons:
1) ergonomics - The Palm pilot just looks easy to use. You don't have
to crack it open, their's no pen to drop and roll behind a couch, and it
doesn't try to cram a full sized qwerty keyboard into a space the size
of an index card.
2) price - its cheaper.
3) popular - its popular; there are almost as many palm pilots running
around as Macs (I guess this could be interpreted as a poke at Macs, but
its not, just an indication of just how many of these things are out
there)
I really don't think battery life, or the windows interface have had
anything to do with it. If windows ce palmtops came out the same time
as the palmpilot I don't think there is any doubt 3com would be in for
one hell of a struggle to win market share.
just my 2c.
